“PSEG I Am Empowered allows our learners to explore energy use and renewal energy. They become more aware of issues of energy efficiency and how energy usage can impact the environment. The students then get excited to share their personal messages about how we can help by producing a short Public Service Announcement.”

– Dr. Ellen McGlade-McCulloh, Science Teacher Mineola Public Schools

“Each year my students look forward to working cooperatively to create a Public Service Announcement for the I Am EM-Powered Program. They look to craft a PSA that is both educational and entertaining. The entire process is exciting as students brainstorm, research, script write, produce & edit their work. When students publicly share their PSA’s, they feel proud that they are communicating to a wider audience the importance of environmental conservation. ”

– Corinne Teichman, Voyager Teacher, Lynbrook Elementary Schools

“I’ve distributed all the materials to the teachers and even took the liberty of creating a supplemental Canva presentation to introduce the challenge and related topic explorations. The response from our students has been fantastic—they’re so incredibly excited about this opportunity! They’ve already started writing their scripts and outlining their PSAs, with plans to begin filming over the next two weeks. Thank you once again for keeping us in the loop, and for providing those helpful tips and reminders. We’re fully committed to making our submissions as impactful as possible.”

– Candice Lombardi, Science Specialist, Powells Lane

Welcome to the I Am EM-Powered Program & Student Challenge. This program offers two Science lessons (three activities within each), one optional Social Studies lesson, and a Student Challenge.

The I Am EM-Powered Program & Student Challenge is fully funded by PSEG Long Island and, therefore, FREE to Long Island and Rockway educators and students.

Program Concept:
Today, the spirit of Earth Day is more relevant than ever. This generation has the passion and power to drive a new wave of environmental action. In these lessons, you’ll inspire your students to become advocates for change, igniting the enthusiasm needed to create a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone.

Students will:

  • Learn about energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy and what their peers are already doing to take action in these areas.
  • Select a topic and craft a message in the form of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to inspire others to take action to save the environment.
  • Be EM-Powered to take their message into the community and invite others to take action to preserve the Earth!
